Starting from the visual and sculptural qualities of display stands, the installation Exercises in staging objects. consists of cardboard cut outs showing characteristic jewellery displays. Although based on parts of the human body, the design of jewellery displays often looks unrealistic, making the body both present and absent. Without jewellery and enlarged until human proportions, these displays only present themselves, as autonomous objects. This may evoke some surprising connotations: they remind us of abstract sculptures or even seem to carry modernist or minimalistic references. With Exercises in staging objects. Anneleen reflects upon (jewellery) presentation through display stands and their possible impact and influence on the viewer’s perception.
